Halloween time is upon us. That can only mean one thing, my annual costume concept reveal is here. In 2023, we took to the high seas in search of a balanced breakfast with Cap’n Crunch. This year, we’re going back to the 80s to pay tribute to a beloved character who’s successful IP has spanned decades. So hum his notoriously catchy theme song and grab your Go-Go Gadget reading glasses, because this blog post is about one very special crime-fighting cyborg.
Halloween 2024 Costume Concept Reveal: Inspector Gadget

Police officer John Brown was saved from the precipice of death by the miracle of modern science after a freak accident. An experimental surgery transformed his body from mere human to part machine. As a fully functional bionic man, filled to the brim with an assortment of tools, contraptions and doohickeys — the cop dawned the pseudonym “Inspector Gadget” and vowed to protect Metro City.
Brown isn’t always as smooth as he thinks. His robotic doodads often lead to accidental comedic hijinks. Gadget is often simpleminded and unaware, assured he’s saving the day regardless of the chaos he’s inadvertently caused. Luckily for him, his brilliant niece Penny Brown is always in his corner. She’s the true hero behind the scenes who solves each case with her genius dog, Brain. Together with the aide of Chief Quimby, Team Gadget defeats the evil Dr. Claw and the nefarious M.A.D. Agents.
Inspector Gadget originally was an animated series which debuted in 1983. Although it was very popular, the show only lasted two meager seasons but ran in syndication well into the 1990s. After a few specials and a computer animated series, actor Matthew Broderick starred as the titular character in Disney’s Inspector Gadget (1999) feature film. A movie sequel and additional new animated shows followed in the years thereafter. In 2019, writers Mikey Day and Streeter Seidell were chosen to pen the upcoming Inspector Gadget live-action reboot. So we’ll be sure to see him again on the big screen or at least a streaming service very soon. I guess that means Go-Go Gadget sign up for Disney+?
